Since my teens I have always planned out what I am wearing, sometimes up to a week in advance. It wouldn’t be unusual to walk into my bedroom and the first thing you see is layers of clothes hanging up from my white wooden wardrobe door that I would look forward to wearing throughout the week.
This ritual has been questioned by many close to me; “You plan your outfits a week in advance! Don’t you get bored of them? What if you don’t want to wear that on Wednesday?”. I always have the same answer. “If you take the time to carefully plan your outfit, you’ll actually look forward to wearing it”. Maybe you haven’t worn that long sleeved lace top with your leather skirt before, or last time maybe you forgot to pair your roll neck jumper with some outstanding silver crystal shower earrings?
We all get tired of our wardrobe choices but the key is to be creative and to take the time to play around with what you have got, even if it’s only 10-15 minutes. If you love clothes, it can be a really therapeutic past time and one which challenges your creative flair, plus, you’ll feel really put together for the week ahead.
Whilst scrolling through LookBook (An area of the internet I choose for style inspiration) I came across a fashion blogger who sported high waisted H&M mom jeans in a light denim, Reebok trainers, a slogan tee and a black leather bomber jacket. This isn’t typically my style choice, however, I have been toying with selling a white and blue ASOS tee which I wasn’t one hundred percent sure on giving up just yet. I paired this tee with mom jeans of my own, my black leather jacket, a plain black leather belt, Adidas cloudfoam advantage trainers and silver medium hoop earrings.
Having not worn my pinstriped wide-leg trousers in a while I decided to whip them out. I paired them with a black volume sleeved jumper with a cinched in waist which automatically creates a flattering silhouette. For a splash of colour, I chose some pillar box red tassel earrings and the same colour heels for striking effect.
When you establish that dressy but comfortable balance, it is safe to say you are on to a winner. For my Wednesday look, I wanted to wear my black, flared, three quarter length culottes which I love wearing with a crisp off-white roll neck (safe to say I am a sucker for all things monochrome). I had originally planned to wear my ankle boots with this outfit, but decided against it to keep things played down. Instead, I opted for my personalised SHINY Nikes and my crystal oversized chandelier earrings. The outfit is casual and comfortable but the statement earrings and the iridescent Nikes add a touch of sparkle.
After talking about items of clothing in your wardrobe you haven’t worn for a long time, I decided to take my own advice and wear my plum coloured lace top with bow details. I do love this top as I don’t own many garments in this colour and I like that the sleeves are sheer. I opted for a pair of black skinny jeans with knee high boots. Earrings I kept simple by mixing a crystal star and an ear crawler.
You know when you have a really nice pair of suit trousers that nip you in at all the right places and are super flattering? If you don’t, it is time to invest in some. After a recent visit to one of the charity shops nearby, I left with a pair of brand new tailored Laura Ashley trousers in navy. I simply adore them. They are so chic and the shape of them, almost flared, do justice for shorter women like myself as they really elongate the leg. Tucking in a breton top creates a nautical theme which matches with the trousers effortlessly. A pointed heel adds height and more importantly, some sophistication too.
Which is your favourite?
